Lewisham Council chooses Ecovert FM for borough-wide MEF contract
Lewisham Council has awarded a three-year contract with potential two-year extension for the Mechanical, Electrical and Fabric maintenance of its borough-wide property portfolio to Ecovert FM.
The contract, commenced on 3 October 2005, will include maintenance of some 180 municipal and corporate buildings across the London borough of Lewisham, with an area exceeding 100 000 m². Key buildings such as the main council corporate offices at Catford, along with nurseries, libraries and buildings for many other uses will be covered under this new contract.
The award of this contract marks an important step-change in procurement methods and approach to building maintenance for Lewisham Council. From October, Ecovert FM assumed responsibility for services provided until now by a large number of different subcontractors. Under Ecovert FM’s management, the maintenance provision to this large portfolio will not only be modernised but equally rationalised to maximise its efficiency. A team of 12 engineers should include two TUPE transferees currently employed by the Council.
Following an EU procurement process, Ecovert FM was selected to provide reactive and preventive Mechanical and Electrical maintenance as well as reactive Fabric maintenance. The Council was particularly keen to find a suitable partner to help them to overhaul their approach to Health and Safety. Under this new partnership, both the Council and Ecovert FM aim to meet the highest standards of Health and Safety both procedurally and in the maintenance of all of the Council’s properties.
